Materials & Durability

What is tungsten carbide and why is it good for a wedding band?

Tungsten carbide is a compound made from tungsten and carbon atoms. It is one of the hardest materials used in jewelry — roughly 8.5 to 9.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, compared to 2.5 for gold and 6 for titanium. In practical terms, that means a tungsten carbide ring will hold its finish and resist scratches through years of daily wear in ways that gold, silver, or platinum simply cannot.

For men who work with their hands — construction, mechanics, military, trades, outdoors — tungsten is the obvious choice. It will not scratch from tools, concrete, granite, or normal physical activity. It will look the same in ten years as it does on the day you receive it.

The tradeoff: tungsten cannot be resized, and it is brittle under extreme crushing force (which is actually a safety feature — see below). Order carefully with sizing and you will never have an issue.

What is the difference between tungsten and titanium?

Both are exceptional materials for a men's wedding band. The main differences come down to weight, hardness, and feel.

  • Tungsten carbide is heavier and harder. It has a satisfying, substantial weight on your hand. It is virtually scratch-proof under normal conditions and holds a mirror or satin finish indefinitely. Best for men who want presence and permanence.
  • Titanium is significantly lighter — about half the weight of tungsten — and is technically softer (though still far more durable than gold). It is hypoallergenic, corrosion-resistant, and barely noticeable on your finger. Best for men who work with their hands and prefer to forget the ring is there.

Both materials are available in 8mm width and come with a lifetime warranty. Neither can be resized. If you are between the two, consider how much you notice your watch or current jewelry. If you prefer minimal sensation, go titanium. If you want to feel the ring, go tungsten.

Will my tungsten ring scratch?

Under normal daily wear conditions, no. Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials on earth and will resist scratching from essentially everything you encounter in daily life — tools, concrete, granite countertops, gym equipment, and outdoor work.

The only materials that can scratch tungsten carbide are other tungsten carbide objects, diamond, or cubic boron nitride. You are unlikely to encounter these in daily life. If your ring develops surface marks over time, they are almost certainly surface residue (dirt, soap film, metal transfer from softer surfaces) that can be removed with a soft cloth — not actual scratches in the tungsten itself.

Are your rings hypoallergenic?

Yes. All of our rings — both tungsten carbide and titanium — use nickel-based binders (not cobalt) and are hypoallergenic. Cobalt binders are cheaper to manufacture with but can cause skin reactions and produce a more brittle ring. We do not use cobalt. If you have a history of metal allergies, titanium is generally considered the safest metal for rings, but our tungsten carbide rings are also suitable for virtually all skin types.

Can a tungsten ring be cut off in an emergency?

Yes — but not the way gold or silver rings are cut. Standard ring-cutting tools used in emergency rooms will not cut through tungsten carbide. However, tungsten is brittle under concentrated crushing pressure. Medical professionals use vice grip pliers or ring-cracking tools to apply focused pressure, which causes the ring to fracture and break off cleanly. This is a well-established emergency removal procedure and does not require any special equipment beyond what hospitals already carry.

Titanium rings can be cut with standard surgical tools. If you work in a profession with high ring-avulsion risk (electrical work, heavy machinery, rope work), consult a safety professional about whether any ring is appropriate for your specific environment.

Sizing & Fit

How do I find my ring size?

The most accurate methods:

  • Visit a local jeweler. Most will size your finger for free in about two minutes. This is the most accurate option.
  • Use our printable ring sizer. Download it from our Ring Sizing Guide, print at 100% scale on US Letter paper, and follow the three steps. Verify calibration by confirming a credit card fits exactly in the box before measuring.
  • Measure with string or paper. Wrap a strip of paper around the widest part of your finger, mark where it overlaps, measure that length in millimeters, and compare to a ring sizing chart.

A few important notes: your ring size can vary throughout the day — fingers are typically smallest in the morning and largest in the evening after activity. Measure in the evening for the most accurate fit. If you are between sizes, go up half a size. The ring should slide on with slight resistance and come off with a little effort — it should not spin freely or require force to remove.

For 8mm wide rings (our standard width), some men prefer to go up half a size because wider bands sit slightly tighter against the knuckle.

Can tungsten or titanium rings be resized?

No. Tungsten carbide and titanium cannot be resized — the materials are too hard to reshape after manufacturing. This is true of every tungsten and titanium ring from every brand, not just ours.

This is why we offer a free 30-day size exchange. If you order the wrong size, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we will send you the correct size at no charge once we receive your original ring back. See our Terms & Conditions for the full policy.

What if I order the wrong size?

No problem. We offer a free size exchange within 30 days of delivery. Email us at support@brandedbands.com with your order number and the correct size. We will send you a replacement once we receive the original ring back. Return shipping is on you, but the exchange itself is completely free.

After 30 days, size exchanges may still be available at our discretion for a $19.99 processing fee plus shipping. Engraved rings are not eligible for size exchange.

What sizes do you carry?

We carry whole and half sizes from 9 through 13 on most products. Some styles may have a slightly different range. If you need a size outside that range, contact us at support@brandedbands.com and we will do our best to accommodate.

Orders & Shipping

How long does shipping take?

Every Branded Bands ring is made to order. Orders are crafted and ship within 7 business days. Once shipped, standard US delivery takes 3–7 additional business days. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking link as soon as your order ships.

Expedited shipping is available at checkout for an additional fee if you need it sooner. Please note expedited shipping applies to transit time after the order ships — production time remains up to 7 business days.

Why does it take up to 7 business days to ship?

Every ring is made to order. We don't keep pre-made inventory sitting on a shelf — your ring is crafted specifically for you after you place your order. This ensures quality and allows us to offer the range of styles, sizes, and finishes we carry. We appreciate your patience and think you'll agree the result is worth it.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking number and a direct link to the carrier's tracking page. Click the link in that email to see real-time updates on your shipment.

If you did not receive a shipping confirmation email, check your spam folder first. If it is not there, contact us at support@brandedbands.com with your order number and we will look it up for you.

Is shipping really free?

Yes. Free standard shipping on every US order, every time. No minimum order. No fine print. Expedited options are available for a fee if you need faster transit after production.

Do you ship internationally?

International shipping is available on select orders. Duties, taxes, and customs fees are the buyer's responsibility and vary by country. Contact us at support@brandedbands.com before ordering internationally so we can confirm availability and estimated costs for your location.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, if the order has not yet entered production or shipped. Email support@brandedbands.com as soon as possible with your order number. Because every ring is made to order, cancellation windows may be limited once production begins. Once an order has shipped, it cannot be cancelled, but you can return it after delivery for a full refund.

Returns, Warranty & Replacements

What is your return policy?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery. The ring must be in original or lightly worn condition with no damage. Contact support@brandedbands.com to initiate a return. Once we receive and inspect the ring, we will issue a full refund to your original payment method within 5–7 business days. Original shipping charges are non-refundable. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility.

Engraved rings are final sale and cannot be returned.

What does the lifetime warranty cover?

Our lifetime warranty covers structural cracking or breaking of the ring under normal daily wear conditions. If your ring cracks, fractures, or breaks — ever — we will replace it at no charge.

The warranty does not cover cosmetic scratches, finish wear from chemical exposure, damage from intentional abuse or use as a tool, or rings modified by a third party after purchase. Lost or stolen rings are covered separately under our Lost Ring Replacement Program (see below).

To file a warranty claim, email support@brandedbands.com with your order number and a photo of the damaged ring.

What is the Lost Ring Replacement Program?

Every Branded Bands customer is enrolled in our Lost Ring Replacement Program at no additional cost. If you lose your ring, we will replace it — up to 3 times over your lifetime.

  • Replacements are for the same style and size as the original order
  • You pay shipping only ($6.99 flat rate domestic)
  • One replacement per incident — you cannot claim multiple rings in one request
  • The program applies to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable
  • Lost ring replacements do not count against your lifetime warranty replacements — they are separate programs

To claim a replacement, email support@brandedbands.com with your original order number.
